Southwest Tucson Homes & Real Estate
The area known as Southwest Tucson is dominated by the Tucson Mountains and Saguaro National Park in the northern half. The park offers nature trails, challenging wilderness treks, picnicking, bike riding, horseback riding and scenic drives through the rugged mountains. Southwest Tucson’s residential and business area begins at Saguaro National Park and runs south to Ajo Highway. Some older, unsubdivided properties dot the area but the real story is in Midvale Park, Star Valley and other developments along the Valencia/Ajo corridors. Star Valley and Midvale Park are Master Planned Communities where you will find a number of unique neighborhoods, linked by neighborhood streets, parks and landscaped common areas. Within these communities, some of the neighborhoods feature pools, spas and other amenities for the exclusive use of their residents. In addition to Star Valley, there was an explosion of new construction and neighborhood growth along Ajo Highway, Valencia & Kinney Roads. At least ten builders contributed to the development of Southwest Tucson resulting in a wide variety of styles and prices. There are brightly colored, Santa Fe style homes as well as classic Southwest and Contemporary designs. Subdivisions have rules designed to protect the value of the homes within, but this also restricts what you can do with the property. There are also unsubdivided properties in Southwest Tucson, which are typically found on larger plots of land and where usage may only be limited by zoning ordinances. For nature lovers, Saguaro National Park covers the entire northern half of Southwest Tucson. It’s a favorite picnic, hiking, and camping location and also home of the world famous Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. The Museum is a bird haven and home for over 300 kinds of desert animals and 1,300 plants. Old Tucson Studios is another major attraction inside Saguaro National Park. Originally built as the movie set for the 1939 western epic, “Arizona”, it continues to be a popular backdrop for movies and television scenes of the Wild West. We invite you to start your tour of Southwest Tucson homes here, and if you have any questions regarding Southwest Tucson or the greater Tucson area, please contact us and we will be happy to help.
